When you find a place with great views, friendly staff, tasty food and a comfy setting, you know you have found a gem.
Recently we were invited to try the new menu at Oevermeer Bistro, situated within the picturesque Kloofzicht Lodge & Spa, part of the Guvon Hotel Group (looking at their sites we just want to travel and try them all).
Not far from bustling JHB lies this tranquil spot, newly discovered thanks to Chef Chris Tustian (who created the menu & runs the kitchens).
Arriving you drive through a game farm and with every animal sighting you feel the stresses leave.
Oevermeer Bistro was built with a clear vision, to encompass and embrace it’s surrounding views. The uncluttered menu offers a variety of choices that is suited to Bistro dining, both filling and tasty we recommend wearing stretchy clothing, you cannot help but enjoy every bite.
We tried the Chicken, brie & bacon jam burger served with a side salad and wedges, along with, a Spicy meatball pizza.
The Chickenburger has a unique and juicy flavour to it, complimented with the slightly smoky taste of the bacon jam, it is truly a winner and a stomach pleaser, portion sizes are great value as well and we struggled to finish the meals.
Spicy meatball pizza one just has to try it, the ratio to base sauce and toppings down to the gooey-ness of the cheese this is a hunger buster of note. The spicy meatballs are delicious and complete Mr’s craft beer. Again the size of the meal is impressive and would be great as a table option to share.
What is great is that they have a few craft beers on offer ensuring Mr was happy and I had a cocktail making me happy. Did I mention they also serve a cake of the day, next time if space allows it will be mine as well as the dessert menu…
Waiting for our food we could hear the birds chirping and lost ourselves watching fisherman (catch & release) trying their luck in the dams.
The ever smiling staff ensure that your always comfortable, and are just as passionate about the food as we are eating it. What makes Oevermeer Bistro special is not only the views, the food but the people, a place is nothing without the dedication and passion from the staff.
Oevermeer Bistro is ideal for functions like kitchen teas, baby showers, team meetings, catching up with friends it’s seating arrangement is set for comfort, without over cluttering and having to strain to hear your partner. We recommend booking as space is limited.
Keep an eye out for our review on Kloofzicht Lodge when we spent the night and delicious dinner in the main restaurant, so much food, so much happy.
